Number and Place Value is the first and most fundamental subject in the Maths Curriculum. A child should be able to:
Read, write, order and compare numbers
Count forwards and backwards e.g. in tens (in years 5 and 6 this includes using negative numbers)
Rounding numbers up and down
Solve simple problems using number and place value across all the above topics
In years 5 and 6 a child should also be able to read Roman Numerals up to 1000 as well as working out how to write years – e.g. the year 2020 is MMXX.
